Part of what needs to be included in this, is the cost in terms of time it takes the average person to figure out their medical bills and insurance statements. I don't know the exact number, but someone with a chronic or complex condition probably spends hours trying to figure this stuff out.

In today's economic environment, I would love to hear if the personal/individual costs associated with each disease process have been mapped out for patients and healthcare providers to digest. (copays and individual payments for each person's particular demographic, payor, and disease or diseases in a Clinical Decision Support tool for personal health economic education)
Have you considered one of those patient centered interactive models?

Patients must learn how to control his disease to avoid the complications of the disease. The physicians can only be the coach or manager of the patients and modify their treatment plan through his experience and clinical judgment. Physicians must teach patients how to adjust to changes in the course of their disease. Physicians have to do this with their healthcare team with the patient being the most important person on the team.
